Articulated work across a varied weekly schedule

The HGV Class 1 Driver role at Loaden Haulage involves operating articulated tractor unit and trailer combinations across the company's full service offering. Weekly work typically spans bulk tipper deliveries from quarries and recycling plants to construction sites, walking floor movements between waste-processing facilities, curtainsider trunking and store-delivery work, and traction-only services using client trailers.

Drivers are based at the Sandy, Bedfordshire operating site and serve clients across the South Midlands, East Anglia, the Home Counties and the wider United Kingdom road network, returning to base or to a designated overnight location depending on the day's schedule.

Key responsibilities

What the role involves day-to-day

  • Safely operate articulated HGV combinations to deliver and collect loads according to the planned daily schedule.
  • Conduct daily walk-around vehicle and trailer checks and report any defects in line with operator-licence requirements.
  • Comply with all relevant drivers' hours, tachograph, and road-transport regulations, supported by the central compliance function.
  • Operate safely on customer sites including quarries, waste-processing facilities, construction sites, distribution centres and retail premises.
  • Maintain accurate paperwork including delivery notes, weighbridge tickets and waste-transfer documentation as required by each load.
  • Communicate proactively with the transport planning team regarding scheduling, traffic conditions and any operational issues that arise.
  • Represent Loaden Haulage professionally with customers, site operatives and other road users at all times.

Candidate requirements

What the role requires

  • Full UK Category C+E (HGV Class 1) driving entitlement.
  • In-date Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (DCPC).
  • Valid digital tachograph card.
  • Clean driving licence preferred; minor endorsements considered subject to discussion.
  • Demonstrable experience operating articulated combinations in a commercial environment.
  • Familiarity with multi-drop, quarry, waste or distribution-centre work is welcomed but not essential — the role offers variety across all four service types.
  • Right to work in the United Kingdom.
