About the role

Plan and coordinate daily fleet movements

The Transport Planner role at Loaden Haulage is the central point of coordination between customers, drivers and the wider operations team. The successful applicant will plan daily fleet movements across the company's full service mix — bulk tipper, walking floor, curtainsider and traction-only work — balancing commercial commitments, vehicle availability, driver allocation and route efficiency.

The role is office-based at the Sandy, Bedfordshire operating site, working in close collaboration with the management team, drivers and customer points of contact. It suits an experienced transport professional with the judgement to keep both customers and drivers properly informed throughout the working day.

Key responsibilities

What the role involves day-to-day

  • Plan daily and weekly fleet schedules to meet customer requirements across aggregate, walking floor, curtainsider and traction work.
  • Allocate vehicles and drivers efficiently against confirmed loads, taking into account drivers' hours, vehicle suitability and route considerations.
  • Communicate proactively with drivers, providing clear instructions, route information and any updates throughout the working day.
  • Manage incoming customer enquiries regarding availability, ETAs, pricing and scheduling, escalating commercial matters to senior management as appropriate.
  • Coordinate sub-hire and traction-only arrangements where in-house capacity requires supplementing.
  • Monitor in-progress movements, identifying and resolving operational issues such as traffic delays, customer site changes or vehicle defects.
  • Maintain accurate planning records, job documentation and reporting outputs to support the central compliance and finance functions.
  • Support continuous improvement of operational systems and processes.

Candidate requirements

What the role requires

  • Demonstrable experience in a transport planning, traffic office or logistics coordination role within a UK HGV operator.
  • Working knowledge of drivers' hours, tachograph regulations and operator-licence requirements.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with drivers, customers and senior management.
  • Comfortable working under time pressure and managing competing operational priorities.
  • Familiarity with transport management software and standard office tools (email, spreadsheets, document handling).
  • Knowledge of the United Kingdom road network and operational considerations for trunking and multi-drop work.
  • Right to work in the United Kingdom.
